This webinar explores body ‘questions’ that emerge in DMT work with LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex) clients in a community-based setting. Deeper understanding of sexuality and gender in a therapeutic context can be beneficial to any client population, helping both clients and therapists move towards de-pathologization and acceptance. The participants will be introduced to LGBTI terms, current research and case examples, which illustrate important considerations in creating safe therapeutic spaces for nonconforming bodies.
Learning Objectives:
Become familiarized with current terminology pertaining to gender identity and sexual orientation
Understand therapeutic issues LGBTQI clients face, and particular benefits DMT can offer
Broaden discussion on therapist competencies regarding gender and sexuality
Continuing Education Credits: 1.0 ADTA CE (Not available for NBCC credit.)
