The Dialectics of Dance -- Building A Dance/Movement Therapy Program Into Dialectical Behavior Therapy Treatment

This webinar provides foundational education about the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) model as developed by Marsha M. Linehan, PhD, for those who are interested in learning more about the model and how Dance/Movement Therapy can be an adjunctive component of a DBT program. It relays information on developing DMT treatment protocols within this model, including staff education, use of props, group development, and client treatment integration.

Learning Objectives:

  1.  Participants will gain a foundational understanding of what Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is including it’s development in the field, the way in which it differs from previous cognitive/behavioral models, the structure of the model and it’s implementation.

  2.  Participants will learn specific somatic/sensory/movement interventions and approaches useful in integrating into this model.

  3. Participants will understand the professional skills and attributes needed to develop such a program in an outpatient setting.

 Anni Johnston MA, BC-DMT, After her Masters in Psychology from California State University at Hayward, Anni worked in research at the University of California, San Francisco. Her Master’s studies in Dance Movement Therapy resulted in becoming a Board Certified Dance Movement Therapist and Creative Arts Therapist in inpatient psychiatry settings. Anni completed an additional 7 years of advanced training in both Chacian Dance Therapy and Authentic Movement in the San Francisco bay area. She is a co-founder The Body Positive, which promotes healthy body image for people of all ages. In Florida, she worked in the addictions field at The Watershed, developing their Wellness Program. Anni has taught Authentic Movement/Dance Therapy workshops internationally. Her advanced training in Rapid Trauma Resolution, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is an essential component of her work at the Therapeutic Oasis. She recently finished her certification in Kripalu Yoga and plans to incorporate Meditation in Motion into classes held at the Sacred Treehouse, the Mindfulness program at the Therapeutic Oasis.
