The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Working with Adolescents in Dance/Movement Therapy

This webinar will give a general overview of adolescent development from a cognitive, social/emotional, psychological and movement perspectives. Case examples from dance/movement therapy (DMT) groups and individual treatment are discussed and presenter offers specific movement experiences for this population. Learning Objectives:

  1.  Gain an understanding of adolescent development from biopsychosocial and movement perspectives.

  2.  Identify potential issues that adolescents might face and examine ways to work in dance/movement therapy that can address these.

  3.  Recognize some of one’s own personal feelings and actions that might affect the therapeutic relationship when working with adolescents.

Presenter Bio:

 

 

 

 

Dawn Morningstar MA, BC-DMT, LPC, is an assistant clinical professor in the Creative Arts Therapy Department at Drexel University. She is a licensed professional counselor and a Board Certified Dance Movement Therapist. Her specialty is working with children and adolescents in dance/movement therapy in clinical, community, and residential treatment programs. Ms. Morningstar choreographed the 2010 ADTA Flash Mob in Brooklyn. She was instrumental to the creation and implementation of the Creative Arts Therapy Program at Philadelphia Family Court. Ms. Morningstar is an active choreographer for both professional theater companies and public schools in the Philadelphia area.
