The Gift of the Embodied Shadow: Identifying and Integrating Our Shadow Parts

As we work with clients, much of the psychotherapeutic focus is on bringing the unconscious into consciousness. This is an equally important parallel process for the clinician. This webinar explores this concept, from the clinician’s perspective, by looking at Jung’s archetype, the Shadow, and evaluating how it can be viewed, integrated, and resourced as an ally through a dance/movement therapy lens. This presentation explores the Shadow, and the potential of its integrative gifts, using the lens of Jung’s theory of the conscious/unconscious mind, the Internal Family Systems Model, and Wilhelm Reich’s concept of body armoring. This extended, one and a half hour webinar includes guided experiential learning opportunities to allow participants the opportunity to explore this material more deeply.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify and evaluate the definition of Jung’s archetype, the Shadow. Use this to bring awareness to how we embody this shadow part.

  2. Explore effective facilitation of the Shadow part(s) in order to understand the impact on clinical work.

  3. Increase awareness of how we learn from these parts, appreciate their value, and move toward integration.
